Every work begins as a performance: poi spun in the dark and photographed with a long exposure, so each arc of light becomes a stroke on black.
Every piece begins as a performance. The poi are swung through a pattern in a dark room, the shutter is held open for the whole pass, and the light lands on one frame. Nothing is drawn afterwards: what you are looking at is where the light went.
Because the body is the drawing instrument, the pattern comes out bilaterally symmetric. That is the one property all 13 works share, and it is why nothing here is ever cropped.
